Hello! My name is Alana and I blog over at Domestic Bliss Diaries about making and managing a home. I am so excited that Angela agreed to swap blogs with me today! This is the first time either of us have ever done an official "blog swap"... hope you all like it!
We decided to share our home office ideas with each other's readers. So, I hope you'll love what I have to share and then click on over {HERE} to see what Angela's ideal office looks like! Deal? Okay, good.
Let's get down to business...
About three weeks ago, I shared my ideas for a play/school room for my son. In that post I mentioned that there is a small closet in the room that I might use as my home office. What I meant to say was: technically, our home office is ALREADY in that closet, but I'm not too crazy about it. Because of this, I've toyed with the idea of placing it elsewhere. Problem is, there are too many variables that could determine where our home office will end up. The biggest factor is whether we have another child {biological, foster, or adopted} in the near future... BUT, to spare you all the what-if's, I'm just going to pretend like nothing is going to change anytime soon. Sooo... today I'm going to share some ideas I have to make this closet-turned-home-office into something I WANT to use.
First things first, though... Gather inspiration:

Any fan of the IHeart Organizing website will immediately recognize the above photo. Truthfully, her closet-turned-office was my first encounter with the whole "cloffice" concept. Not gonna lie... I thought it was pure genius! What I like about her version specifically is that gorgeous wallpaper and the use of a curtain instead of a door.

This one from Kelly Rae Roberts is absolutely adorable. Love those paper lanters... shows that she doesn't take her workspace too seriously. I also like that her desk is just two filing cabinets {on casters} with a board on top - very "industrial chic". Lastly, it's a great practice to keep inspiration close at hand when you're working and those two shelves above the desk display photos and meaningful trinkets... what could be more inspirational than things that mean something to you?

The above closet-turned-office {which was featured on Apartment Therapy} is awesome if for no other reason than the back is painted in chalkboard paint! If you look closely, you can see that she attached a frame onto the wall to keep her to-do list separate from other notes.

The great thing about this space {featured on Houzz.com} is the contrast: charcoal gray walls outside the "cloffice" and pretty pink walls inside!
The best thing, in my opinion, about a turning a spare closet into a hard-working office space is that it can be closed off when not in use {definitely a feature I need because I would be on the computer all. day. long. if it was easily accessible}. It doesn't just have to be an office space, though... try turning your guest bedroom closet into your craft corner or the closet in the playroom could be turned into a gift wrapping station. The possibilities truly are endless!
So, what exactly do I have planned for my office? Well, let's start by mentioning the requirements: girly and organized! With a husband and a son, a girl's gotta have a place to escape the testosterone that runs rampant around here. And, the "organized" requirement? Well, the reason for that part should be a given.
Keeping those requirements in mind, here's what I came up with:

CLOFFICE INSPIRATION by domesticblissdiaries on polyvore.com
Girly? Check! Organized? Double check!
As for details, let's start with those shelves and move clockwise, m'kay?
As with any organized space, storage is key... So, I want to install white floating shelves to house things like magazine holders, books, and other office supplies.
Next up is that pink, gray, and coral tassel garland. Honestly, I just included this because I thought it was cute and fun... much like those paper lanterns in the second inspiration picture.
Almost 6 months ago, I came across that post-it-notes-on-a-chalkboard idea on Pinterest and it literally made me stop in my tracks. Believe me, I absolutely heart lists, so this color-coded to-do-list-on-organizing-steroids makes me happy. I love that I can categorize my to-do list, move things up or down the list {depending on urgency}, and have a big picture view of everything going on in my life.
In my humble opinion, any creative space worth it's salt has an inspiration board! Sometimes a quick glance at a collage of dreamy photos is all it takes to pull you out of a funk when you come down with a bad case of "creativity block" {which is a lot like writer's block...}.
I've had my eyes on that Martha Stewart planner ever since Toni, from A Bowl Full of Lemons, revealed hers a couple of weeks ago. You know how you buy a planner, only to realize it doesn't work for you? Yep, been there, done that. What's great about this planner is that you buy the components that fit your needs and put it together on your own. Fool proof!
I included two decorative accessories that caught my eye {gold chevron tray and monogrammed Anthropologie mugs} because I think every office space should have a dose of personality. The great thing about these pieces, though, is that they're just as functional as they are beautiful. I'd use one {or two, or three...} of those mugs to hold my pens and I'd use that tray to keep essentials close at hand{like an address book - does anyone else but me still use those? - or a notebook for jotting down ideas}.
The laptop is pretty self-explanatory... except, I should note that I included it because I don't have a laptop right now. We have one desktop computer that my husband and I both share. However, I'm hoping that, in the near future, we can get a laptop so my husband doesn't have to work in such a feminine space. Plus, I would probably enjoy the freedom of working wherever I wanted, as well.
Last, but not least, I'd keep some decorating and organizing books handy for reference purposes. The Meghan Method and Domino: The Book of Decorating are two of my absolute favorites. I haven't read The Perfectly Imperfect Home yet, but based on the title, I think I'm gonna love it! {Anyone out there already read it? Thoughts?}

So, there you have it: my womancave"cloffice"! Now that I've been given permission to dream a little, I'm kinda hoping it works out to where I can use the closet as an office. Boy, for someone who was dead set against this idea, I sure have changed my tune. ;)
I hope you had fun dreaming a little with me.
Now, if you haven't already, go check out what Angela has come up with {HERE}!
And, THANK YOU SO MUCH, Angela, for having me over today. I had a blast putting together this mood board...
Blessings,
